“LGBT People under the Nazi Regime” by  Dr. Warren J. Blumenfeld

7:00pm, Great Hall, Memorial Union

The Nazis gained control of the German Reichstag (or Parliament) in 1933, and soon thereafter, Adolph Hitler was named chancellor of Germany. Less than one month later, all LGBT organizations were banned, books were set ablaze, and suspected gay and bisexual men and trans men were rounded up, interrogated, and eventually incarcerated — many mutilated and murdered.

This unique and informative slide presentation places the Nazi atrocities against LGBT people in historical perspective and in the context of a concerted and violent campaign against other groups targeted by the Nazi regime.

Tuesday, April 10

Identified Line-Up

12-2:00pm, Outside Curtiss Hall on Central Campus
Many people will stand in a line in front of Curtiss Hall on Central Campus. Each of them will be holding a piece of paper that has their name on one side, and their sexual orientation and/or gender identity on the other. Participants (usually strangers passing by) will be asked to go through the line of people and guess their identities. Is it possible to correctly guess how someone identifies based on their appearance? What assumptions do we make about people in regard to their unique sexual orientation and/or gender identity?
